Product Overview

Processors up to 2x faster. Done and done. With third-generation Intel Core processors, Mac mini keeps up with computers twice its size. You can choose a 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5. Or go for an even more powerful 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 for up to twice the performance of the previous-generation dual-core Mac mini.1 When you're using processor-intensive applications, Turbo Boost 2.0 increases the clock speed up to 3.6GHz. Hyper-Threading lets each core run two threads, so OS X multitasks even more efficiently. And an integrated memory controller connects fast 1600MHz memory...

I have given this Mac Mini 3 stars - not because of the hardware itself but for the operating system which has been
somewhat of a let down for me. If you are a long time MacOS user you might overlook these comments!

I just bought a Mac Mini for a few jobs i cant accomplish with Linux (Ableton Live & Testing Websites). I can tell you one thing the old adage regarding OSX that it "Just Works" (TM) is a complete myth.
Heres a list of some of my complaints with it so far.

1) Its a Mac Mini and its "Supposed" to work with my own Keyboard / Mouse -- I have so far been unable to get the keyboard mapping right (certain characters are on the wrong keys). On Ubuntu the keyboard wizard asks you to type one or two characters and it correctly identifies the key map. What could be simpler ? Its a bog standard Microsoft keyboard. This stinks of "If you want the full experience - better buy the Apple (TM) peripherals."

2) By default the scoll wheel on the mouse goes in the opposite direction to what is normal and inituitive. First thing you have to do is figure out how to reverse this

3) Home and End keys in the terminal - what the heck were they thinking here? why on earth do they go to the beginning and the end of your session instead of the current prompt? This was only fixable by editing text files.

4) Mouse wheel over the volume icon in the task bar does not affect the volume at all - you have to click on it first.

Theres a bunch of other irritations too like the lack of being able to write to external NTFS formatted drives making sharing files with linux or windows on OSX a difficulty.

There are operating system discs provided so even if you add an external drive it will be tricky to re-format / install the computer without purchasing the install media from Apple - unless you want to resort to less reputable sources!

Aside from the above gripes the machine itself is well packaged, made out of brushed aluminium and supports many modern features such as HDMI , Thunderbolt , USB3 . The price of the base model is hard to beat for these features especially in such a tiny package.

Postage.
I received my Mac two days before the estimated arrival date. Wonderful. However, I found it lying in my porch, not signed for and unprotected. For me this wasn't a major concern. I didn't have much time to dwell upon that fact anyway because as soon as I opened my door I fetched some scissors to allow me to attack the box ferociously. If you don't have a porch then this may be a worry, however I feel as though this may have been the postman's own fault.

Price
This Mac, already the cheapest of all Macs, has been made cheaper. Cheaper even than Apple's education discount. Not only this but it also has a much shorter shipping date than the Apple website as well (5 days).

Product
Within 10 minutes of opening the box, I had the Mac mini connected to my HDTV via an HDMI cable, my disc drive (something to consider seeing as the mini is lacking in that area) via a USB cable and my wireless mouse and keyboard via Bluetooth. This just illustrates the flexibility of this product. Set-up was just as easy. It comes up with the necessary steps to ensure that you can make the most of your computer immediately. You shall need an Apple ID but if you don't possess one then you can easily create one for free.
The baseline Mac mini has all the necessary specification for home computer and casual gaming. A 3rd Gen dual core i5 processor, 500GB hard drive and 4GB RAM (easily upgradable to 8 and beyond) is more than capable of handling all of you tasks.

Overall this is a great product well worth the £467 price tag. I'm looking forward to carrying out all of my computing needs on this machine for the next few years.

I feel I know this computer except the 'textedit' programme is a bit unfamiliar, but I guess I'll get to grips with it eventually.

Probabably don't wish to know what happens, if they still sell such products after 90 years. At least it good to know, than Apple company still exist. Probably Apple take idea of Time Machine too seriosly and put it to next level (if they able provide products from future). Probably I also wish get iPhone 10 this Christmas (if they can arrange delivery from furure).

This computer is so small, light and quiet that it feels like the sort of thing that won't even be launched for 90 years. Apple have done a wonderful job of making the computer of the future available today.
