The tablet itself is good, but mine lasted a few hours then died and wouldn't let me charge it again.

Good solid 10" screen, my first tablet and overall very happy with it.
The socket for the mains cable is very 'iffy' with cable plug 'hanging on'. The screen can be temperamental with touch-screen pens, often requiring quite a 'punch' to have effect.
Excellent value for money compared with similar products such as Samsung Galaxy 10" or the over-priced iPad. I did buy this product for one particular use - chart plotting at sea on a boat, so didn't want to spend too much, and this is very good value for money. Excellent for that puprose, though real problem with glare, even in an enclosed wheelhouse. My impression from accounts read is that all tablets suffer the same problem. Indoors the screen visibility is excellent from almost any reasonable direction. (Trying other products in shops before purchase, for comparison, I find others very poor in this vital area, and the Archos outshines all those I've seen, including the 'must-have' iPad - which I regard as very over-rated and over-priced).
Excellent customer service from Archos - very quick replies to queries and very helpful.
Overall very pleased.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's cheap for a reason ..., 10 Dec 2012

This is by far the cheapest 10" tablet on the market ... for a reason. If this is all you can afford, don't bother, save up until you can buy something half decent. I really should have been warned when the first one delivered had to be immediately returned when it crashed on firmware update, I'm kicking myself I did not get a refund then. The replacement worked sort-of ok, although the screen response was poor at best, until at 3 months old the screen cracked and nothing could be done with it. And NO, I didn't crack it, just woke up one morning and it was cracked. So unless we've got a heavy ghost who sat on it on the night, it's rubbish quality. Replacement under warranty? You wish - how about a few pounds off a newer version, given that you obviously cracked it yourself? Thanks a bunch.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't!, 3 Dec 2012

I gave two stars instead of 1 only 'cause I have got it used like new for less than half price. NOTE: It is not the Turbo version. It came with a sticker saying 'Turbo' on it just where the printing should be (bottom right of the screen)!! Fake? Probably. At the end the battery life is less than 5 hours in surfing mode and roughly 4 h listening to music (fully charged). And they state on the ad that is up to 36hours playback!!! WHHHAAATT!??? Watching movies could be even less. Don't know, haven't tried yet. I am constantly recharging the unit which is not like anything one would want from a portable device such this one. It takes ages to recharge (probably cause it needs to be turned on to recharge.. can you imagine?!!). Bulky and plastic toy looking (almost like PS2). Not impressed with design (though I knew already that). Firmware did upgrade OK. Can't connect to TV as in previous Archos models (which used to be the USP of the product). Overall software is acceptable, but you want to consider the troubles with downloading attachments and opening files though you email account (which might be an ICS issue though). It won't see anything but plain text. Got a bios reboot 4 times already for not reason when turning on. Twice already in three days shutting down issues (won't turn off..loading and keeepp loadiiingggg.. annnddd..nothing happens). Could be the HD spinning and the chipset that go on and off every five seconds for no reason. Again, good buy only if you get it half of the price (or less). Do not bother otherwise. Look for a cheaper Android (lees memory but at least you know what to expect). Thinking of returning it soon.

Honestly the worst product I have ever purchased. Bought for my son way back in May, replaced twice (same problem)

Archos customer service completely useless, in fact useless does not go far enough

Amazon customer service completely brilliant, got my money back and my son now has a Nexus 7 (that he loves)

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Tablet for Under £200, 20 Nov 2012

Picked one of these up after doing alot of research into all the different tablets, the google nexus, asus transformer, Samsung Galaxy Tab, all of these come in over £200 and although decent bits of kit, were a little out of my price range,

i then stumbled upon the Archos 101 G9, 1.5Ghz Multi Core (dual Core) 1Gb ram on ICS and 16gb onboard memory and all for under £200. what could go wrong i hear you say?

Well Nothing actually, feels sturdy although some people have called it plastiky (its made of plastic...) and some have said the screen is not a great screen, maybe im not a very critical person, but screen seems very clear and bright, everything you would want from a screen to be honest, Came with Android 3.2 installed, however as soon as you connect to wifi during initial setup and come to the android desktop it prompts you that an update to the firmware is available, a few short minutes later ICS is installed and off you go,

Unlike some cheaper tablets this is fully Google Certified, complete with Google Play Store. another brilliant feature is i logged in using my google account that i use for my Samsung S3 phone and could see all my current paid for and installed apps and installed them all on my tablet. even the paid for ones i can use on both which is a nice touch from google.

the Arm Processor in this Tablet out performs the Nvidia Tegra 2 Chips touted in some of the more expensive tablets so make sure you do your homework, only devices that will be faster than these is the Xenos Chips similar to one found in the Samsung S3 Phone (Quad Core) and the Tegra 3 found in the google/asus Nexus 7 + 10(also QuadCore) but remember you will pay £100+ more for these Tablets over the Archos.

All in All a decent well rounded device for sub £200 with all the features you would expect from a £350-400 tablet. get them while you can, as the Archos G10 101XS is now out/out soon i imagine this stock drying up very shortly.

1.0 out of 5 stars Archos 502052 10" G9 16GB - won't charge, 18 Nov 2012

This review is from: Archos 502052 Gen 9 10 inch Tablet (1.5Ghz ARM processor, 512MB RAM, 16GB Memory, Android 3.2 Honeycomb (upgradeable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich) (Personal Computers)
Ordered the Archos 502052 101 G9 16GB from Amazon for £169.99 Nov 2nd 2012.
No idea which model arrived as you'll see later.

Surprised at skimpy packing, what does a little bubble wrap cost?
Switched tablet on, it said 78% charged.
Fitted mains charger, green power light constant not flashing.

Pleased with 1 minute video demo and volume from sample sound files provided.

Allowed to charge for 1 hour then set up Wifi and immediately tablet asked permission to download an update.

Put tablet to one side while updating and charging.
After 5 minutes the screen went blank.
After another minute the power light turned off.

Unable to get any response from the Archos tablet.
Tried Power switch plus Vol+ to reset (as advised by online manual) but still nothing - no screen or sound.
Atached tablet to computer using cable supplied but tablet not recognised.

Checked the charger, its working (charging) on my T-Mobile Wifi pointer (same fitting and voltage).
Left Tablet on charger overnight. No green power light at any time.

Next day there was no change so registered the tablet on the Archos website and returned the package to Amazon.

Note 1: No point in paying for special delivery when returning goods (eg. next day + tracking),
because Amazon only refund £3.95

Note 2: The goods came from Amazon.Eu S.a.r.L (France) but you wouldn't know it by the excellent delivery speed.
Note 3: Without access to the tablet's settings one can't determine its Product Key (for registering at Archos). Had to make do with their temp PK: NOPK_SUPPTECH.

When reviewing tablets I was skeptical about the number of bad experiences with the Archos 502052 (101 G9) but sending out a tablet that can't be charged or run off the mains is totally unacceptable.

I liked the looks, the spec and the price of the Archos 502052 but by the next day Amazon had added another £11 to the price so ordered an older style Toshiba A200 instead.

I had to return the first tablet as umpteen things went wrong ith it. Touch screen stopped working, it kept switching off among other things then the 2nd one took a full day to charge then the back button stopped working. When I went forward to the next screen it sent me back to the previous screen. The back button kept flashing. Amazon customer services were 1st class throughout the whole ordeal and I eventually got a refund. Definitely do not recommend this product.

The first one I got stopped charging after 2 days and would only work when it was plugged into the charger. Then the sound stopped working and THEN it just refused to unlock and power up. Ho Hum I thought and ordered a replacement. This arrived a couple of days later and within a couple of hours of turning it on half the screen went blank, well bright white to be exact and wont revert back no matter what I try. Give this tablet a wide bearth till they iron out the obvious problems theyre having with it. Very dissappointed as it fealt a good buy at first.
