4.0 out of 5 stars a bit plasticky, 6 Dec 2012

My only moan is that I am constantly accidentally hitting the track pad with various parts of my hand, with unexpected consequences e.g. randomly deleting paragraphs :-/ But, when I get around to plugging an external mouse in, this problem will presumably go away, and everything else seems fine. I am running ubuntu and the default configuration has me connecting to ubuntu.cn for updates, but this is easily fixable, if indeed it needs fixing. Apart from that, it's a bit plasticky, but has a nice big screen and is very cheap for what it's offering. I have multiple users logged in at once with no appreciable slowdown and I love it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great idea terrible execution, 25 Nov 2012

Great idea - make a cheap lowspec slimline laptop and put linux ubuntu on it to save os license costs. The lap top initially looks great and has in-built camera BUT on closer inspection:

- the keyboard was warped a sign of very poor build quality with stuff under it pushing up and causing curvature
- no getting started docs.... i.e. you have to google and guess to find the initial password and then getting wifi and other items working takes a while and a fair bit of research and a lot of updates
- I did get everything going however but then I am much more technical than the average user but when everything was working the processor was struggling with even basic tasks such as running a youtube video in the browser, multitasking really poor
- sound awful
- trackpad is barely useable making a mouse an absolutely essential accessory

Aaagh it has a glossy screen even though they say its anti glare. It is not. Back in the box. It feels very light for the size but also very breakable. Also looks as if dirt could easily get under the keys. Frankly there are better machines for the price. (if you don't mind a glossy screen.)

I had asus eee pc before, so my comparison is according to that. I am also generally very proficient in working with computers in anyways: hardware and software.

Battery: Would not last more than 2 hours. Really disappointing. Anything out there is better.

Touchpad: There is a serious problem with the touch pad in this unit. You can also see it from the other reviews. Simply this is the worst part of the laptop. Be sure that you need an external mouse. Simply you can not click anywhere exactly.

Keyboard: Not bad but it is not comfortable either although it is on a 13" laptop. I was much more comfortable with the 10" eee keyboards.

General Build: Not very good. very easily tips if the monitor is tilted abit more than 90. The laptop is very filmsy too.

OS: the only good thing is that you don't pay for the Windows. The Windows drivers except the Bluetooth are available on a separate CD. However, if you want to work with windows, then buying a laptop with windows preinstalled is a more economical option.

Mic: Surprisingly enough it does not have mic jack, only speaker. You should use USB headset. They metioned that it is a universal jack but anyway, bad.

USB: only two USB ports.

VGA: no vga. only hdmi is available.

Bluetooth: Seems that bluetooth does not work either. I thought it might be a problem specific to my notebook but it also seems that other reviewers have mentioned that.

Performance: Good

Conclusion: Now I am using it with an external keyboard and mice. Touch pad is really terrible to the point that you can not work with it at all. Considering the screen size (13"), price, lack of VGA, mic and short battery life it is just not too bad. If you can afford, buy something else from a different brand or just go to 10" ones with acer/asus/... . Also there are other manchines at this price which does the job much better than this one.

If you have any questions I would be willing to help.

EDIT: Now after about 6 months it has started roaring. it is louder than a 4 year old 15" dell for my wife.

This product is very attractively presented. The packaging is terrific, and well thought out. the computer itself is slim, neat in appearance, and fired up quickly once connected to the mains to charge the battery. The screen is clear and colour definition good (yes it did show a whole lot of icons down the left side of the screen). I was then asked to input the PASSWORD. PROBLEM - password provided did not let me get into the little beasties working parts. It should have arrived with a USB stick that might well have contained contact and assistance information. It arrived with a CD disc instead which was of no use since there is no CD/DVD reader on the machine. Sadly I have no idea how good the machine is. It is now on it's way back to Amazon. I am reluctant to have re-order. I might get another dud. It would have helped if there was some contact information in the package. The warrentee address has no telephone number. Nor can one be found anywhere on the Internet.

I bought this laptop after reading a number of reviews about how good it is, fast, quite and 3.5hrs battery life etc. Well I am very disappointed with it. The laptop is very noisy, completely unacceptable, the keyboard feels really cheap, wifi doesn't work and the final irritant, the battery took 3.5hours to charge, but only gave me 1hour 20 minutes on a full overnight charge. If you want a laptop that is fairly quite with a pretty decent battery life, this is not for you. The mouse pad is awful believe me. The mouse keys are so difficult you will have to use and external mouse. I don't normally write reviews but unfortunately this laptop didn't cut it for me. The noise for me was unbearable!

I will be sending it back based on no wifi, blue-tooth cutting in and out, the noise of the hard disk and the appalling 1 hour 20 minute battery life.

Spend more and get something better.

This does not include windows, so I am returning it. I guess I missed that in the product description. Otherwise, I think it would have been a nice laptop.

I was a bit worried when I bought it. Cheap stuff, from a small company... I was half expecting that there would be some unforgivable flaw to the device.

After having used it for a month, I must say that I have found none.

It's not all candy though. The touchpad is not very nice to use. It sometimes wont register clicks, whether on the button or a tap on the pad. I prefer using it with a small mouse. The battery life is low. 2 to 3 hours. This can be a blocker for many people. I found other minor quirks like the fact that if you plug a usb peripheral in the slot that is near the jack, and you have headphones or speakers on, the sound will suddenly suck. Which is problematic on a device with only 2 usb slots. But no blocker, really. The sound is not very powerful on the speakers, making it hard to listen to movies. Also, it comes with a US keyboard. Funny for a device sold in Europe. It's just a matter of glueing stickers on the keys to get whatever layout you want, but nobody should have to do that.

But hell! This is a great looking 13.3 inches, lightweight and relatively fast computer that is not encumbered with an optical drive, a windows tax or the usual +1000 price tag that usually comes with those ultrabooks things. Its screen is great from full face as well as side angle, doesn't shine reflexions. All the gear has open source drivers, which is just wonderful if you want linux on it, and just as good is you want windows (the real windows, not some crapware laden version from Acer or Asus that is force-sold to you with the machine). And the price... is just perfect.

I really recommend it. And I would have given it the 5 star grade if it wasn't for that annoying touchpad. And I would have paid 50 more for twice the battery life.
