I have been using the AA X1 for several months now and have been very pleased with the performance for microsoft office tasks and extensive online research. The AA X1 is exceedingly quiet - I have to actively listen hard to hear it in normal use.

I have the AA X1 lying on its left hand side i.e. the "a" in "acer" is at the bottom so it fits snug in across the point of a corner workstation desk. I use a powerline system with no problems in setup.

DVDs play well and quietly - I use a Samsung monitor with HDMI connection.

It only loses a star because on the single occasion I wrote to a DVD the DVD drive was loud, this is not a problem for me as I use other media and the cloud for backup storage.

I would purchase again

4.0 out of 5 stars Desktop PC, 29 Dec 2012

It is small, so I can place it on my desk next to my keyboard. However, I notice that there is an occasional buzzing noise, where by I have to move the PC at a certain position in order to stop the noise. As far as I know my desk is level.

The i3 processor provides a very good operating speed and Windows 7 is a distinct improvement. (My previous PC just used an old Athlon 1GHz processor with 1 GB RAM & Windows XP.)

IF the 2 front USB2 ports were aligned in a vertical position, it would be a lot easier for insertion of USB sticks

As it is still fairly new to me (only since the beginning of December 2012), I have not explored all the benefits yet. So far I am very happy to get my work, etc done on it quite quickly.

I would recommend this to other IF anyone looking for a good PC with a limited budget.

Fast and neat. Connected wirelessly to my 40" HD TV. Been using it some 6 weeks and am very happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Dream Computer!, 26 Dec 2012

This computer is basically a top-notch, can't get any better, computer. It's very very quick, it plays 1080p HD videos brilliantly, and it has no problems with gaming, or programs that need alot of RAM. You can have large capacity programs up such as Adobe Photoshop, Google Chrome, a video editor, and a game, and use them all at once, it's just THAT good!

There is only one thing I dislike about this product, which is that it doesn't come with speakers, and you have to buy them seperately, but you can just buy some cheap ones off amazon anyway. It takes 1min 30 seconds to start up, which is amazing compared to past computers I've had.

This computer is perfect for those who are thinking about video editing or gaming due to the large 8GB RAM and 2TB of memory! I'd DEFINITELY recommend it to those who are wanting an update from their old computer, because this will just seem like a dream computer to them. There are literally NO improvements that could be made on this computer! LOVE IT! BUY IT NOW!

Good looking, compact, easy to set up and use and great performance. Would be five stars but I had to get a new monitor cable as the graphics card doesn't have a dvi connection.

Does all I expected within my budget.
Very pleased with delivery time.
I would most certainly recommend it to others.
However, the absence of an 'disc in use' indication is driving me nuts!

This was recommended to me and I am fairly pleased, especially the wireless feature. I now have less trouble accessing the internet.
I am disapointed that my Windows wireless keyboard and mouse won't work with it (they slow it down soooooo much) and only one type of memory card can be used.
Set up and backup instructions are good.

4.0 out of 5 stars No problem with SVGA on entry-level machines, 21 Nov 2012

I agree with other positive reviewers and have little to add except that on my first machine (Core i3, 4gb ram, 500gb drive) the SVGA output is enabled (unlike the one reported by Chas) and it all worked straight from the box. Monitor sockets are SVGA and HDMI; there is no DVI-D. However, the SVGA signal looks very good indeed on my LG 21" LCD monitor.

I was so pleased with this desktop that I ordered a second one, though the original spec was out of stock and I moved up to the next level (6g memory, 1Tb hard drive and improved graphics). Chas will be interested to see that this one did NOT have a VGA monitor output, but it DID have both HDMI and DVI-D! Obviously you need to check before purchase. Unfortunately my second machine appears to have been sent without a functioning operating system, so wouldn't boot up. I returned it using Amazon's excellent return service, and the replacement worked straight from the box (on a DVI-D monitor). Only one minor problem encountered: I have a couple of software packages that would not load from the built-in "vertical" DVD. Fortunately they loaded first time from my external USB DVD reader. My Acer Aspires - in both incarnations - have since worked flawlessly.

Great compact and fast PC for a very reasonable price. I agree with other comments that the vertical CD /DVD player is fiddly until you get used to it and when the mechanism starts it's quite noisy but it's only for a short time. Otherwise it's given us everything we want and is very fast in performance and response (relative to our last 5 year old computer). It was fairly easy to set up and is now settled in. One mystery which only happened when we started using this computer is that my ISP now seems to be .fr rather than .uk and at first when I went onto the internet under my name everything was in French. It didn't affect my wifes side when she logged onto the internet through the same ISP. We've got rid of that but I still get a reference to .fr now and again. It was just an annoyance and I'm not sure if it's the computers fault but it seemed too much of a coincidence.

Do not buy this machine if you intend to use your existing monitor! Despite it having a VGA port on the specifications, and on the PC, it does not work. It took me 2 machines to discover this.
The installation instructions show the monitor being plugged into the VGA port but according to the Acer help? desk this is disabled and cannot be enabled.
VGA has been the standard for many years so your existing monitor will be VGA, and over 90% of monitors for sale at a reasonable price at the moment are VGA only. When I asked the totally unhelpful person on the Acer desk he admitted that the monitor on his desk would not work on my new machine.
I have now spent additional cash ordering a DVI to VGA converter. I hope this works.
