Having had 2 previous Acer laptops that lasted reasonably well, I sent for an Acer 5755G laptop on the basis that it had a good spec for a reasonable cost. However I had not appreciated that modern laptops have much poorer displays than 5 or 10 years ago - they all seem to be very shiny shiny LCD with LED backlightling and have widescreen restricting height. Also the contrast ratios (difference between darkest darks and lightest lights) are very poor indeed. Looking at the Acer screen caused me severe eyestrain to the extent I got my eyes tested. Since sending back the laptop, my eyes have returned to normal. Thanks for asking.

So, I bought a brand new monitor (AOC e2050s) which has a nice matte screen and good contrast ratio and sent for this Acer desktop (i7, Nvidia graphics card) on the basis that it would be smaller than other desktops and reviews suggest it is quiet at least.

OK, the good news is that it is smaller than most ugly beasts on the market, and it is fairly quiet except when using the disk drive. The mouse and keyboard are fairly unusable and it has all the usual bloatware. The internet would not work until I removed McAfee. All these are minor irritations.

No, the problems started when trying to connect the VGA connection at the back of the desktop to the VGA connection on the monitor which just gave the error "No Signal" shown on the monitor. Days and days were spent trying to get these 2 to connect to each other, I got help from my wife and daughter who was brave enough to remove the back of the computer only to discover that the VGA connection is not connected. Not at all. On emailing Acer they eventually replied that the VGA connection is in fact a dummy. So where it says in the Amazon description and on Acer's own website that there is a VGA connection, it's all lies I'm afraid. You have to connect the desktop by DVI or HDMI only. My monitor only has VGA, in common with most others, but I have gotten round it by using a DVI-I to VGA connector, which may or may not be a good idea, I cannot say whether the picture I get is as good as I would get if I could connect it directly, but having sent one of these machines back as I thought it was faulty I have just resolved never to buy an Acer anything again, warn anyone else in this position and to always use Amazon for computers, as they have been very helpful as ever.

Update: Having had the pc for a few weeks, I would say that although it is quiet there is a very annoying high pitched whine when I am on the internet, also I have found that a DVI-I to VGA lead works better than using a connector, as I now get a higher resolution on my monitor. Finally the sound on this machine is poor, and the headphone socket annoyingly positioned at the bottom has an unacceptable hiss and to me is unusable. This is even more annoying as I don't think you can fit an internal soundcard, the pc being non-standard.

Selected this Desktop hoping to be able to use it with my very good monitor but with VGA connection. Unfortunately it DOES NOT work with VGA... had to buy another monitor and spent as much as the cost of an ALL-in-One PC. There should be a clear warning that the product does not work with a VGA monitor. Do not make this mistake - and just buy another product. I wish I had done it...
