We bought this as a replacement for my father's aging Dell. If you want to continue in the tradition of a desktop as opposed to a notebook or all-in-one PC for home office use then this PC could be ideal for you. In my opinion it offers good value for money, a healthy spec and looks good. However, this would not be a PC to buy if you were looking for high speed gaming performance, but, to surf/download, run MS Word/Excel, edit the odd photograph/video, then it's just right.Do not be put off by the fact it has an AMD Phenom II processor which may be less familiar than an Intel one - it is both powerful and offers good value for money. The memory (RAM) size is fine at 4Gb and the hard drive is a capacious 1TB - more than many users will ever fill up. Additionally, it has a dedicated graphics card (NVidia Geforce 405) with 1MB of it's own memory - in many PCs in this class they share the system memory which can reduce performance. The PC also comes equiped with its own built-in wireless card - so unlike most other brands you don't have to plug in a USB dongle to connect it to your wireless network - a neater solution plus it saves the cost of a USB dongle. The internal wireless card handles the most common home wireless network standards - 802.11 b,g and n.
The case is a standard size and finished in smart piano black with 6 USB ports, two of which are mounted behind a sliding panel on the front alongside a headphone/mic socket for Skype etc. An additional feature is that the PC is equipped with a TV card which can be set up through the installed Windows 7 (64 bit) Home Premium to receive Freeview TV - a remote control is also supplied, but, beware that you need a free TV aerial feed to connect to. This HP PC also sports an HDMI socket on the rear plus the usual video/sound outputs - many PC monitors now sport HDMI connectivity.
Most of the installed software is mainly intended to get you going rather than being a long term solution and includes a trial of Norton Internet Security, Microsoft Office Starter Edition plus some of HP's own multimedia (DVD/photo viewing)and system maintenance software plus a few other offerings.
The warranty is 1 year RTB and, from experience I have recently had with another HP PC, the quality of HP PC support has improved significantly of late.
In summary, this PC can represent a very practical solution to home office needs with a good cost/performance ratio. Highly recommended.

HP are a real joy to deal with. Only two days into my ownership I needed information. Not only did I get to speak to a real person, but after my problem was sorted a supervisor came on the line to tell me that someone from his dept would phone me to see how I was getting on,(which he did). Try that with Microsoft!

Not a computor buff but this was easy to set up and is running perfectly replacing my old Compaq which crashing and forgetting things. What Other Items Do Customers Buy After Viewing This Item?
