My first impressions of this laptop are very positive. It's genuinely thin and light with very similar weight and dimensions to a 13" MacBook Air. In fact, I think the latest Air is a good comparison in many respects. In 6 months there are likely to be lots of fast, thin and light PC ultrabooks; right now this is one of a very small group.

This is in a similar class in terms of build quality and performance to an Air and, unsurprisingly, it comes with a similar price tag. Whether that price tag makes sense for you is a very subjective thing - how much do you value things like the weight or build quality of a laptop? This is an extremely nice device, significantly nicer than a typical Windows laptop. However, you could buy a 13" laptop with a more powerful CPU - albeit with an inferior screen, no SSD, much heavier and so on - for half the price.

The key features that this has over an Air (I think - I'm no expert here) are a matte screen, HDMI video output and USB 3.0. The most obvious negative is somewhat weak wireless networking reception. It's been OK for me so far but reception is worse in my home than other laptops I've tried recently and if you search around online you'll find people who report more significant difficulties.

1.0 out of 5 stars AVOID!, 26 Feb 2012

This Samsung is worst price/quality you can encounter. It's pricey, it's low-performing and low-quality and all of that supplied with below-average after-sales support.
I purchased 900X3A on Amazon back in June 2011 as an alternative to Mac Air so I don't have to buy a Windows license. Its low-performance comes from super-poor in-built wi-fi. As others mentioned - unless you are 1-5 meters away from the wi-fi spot you won't have any stable connection. I have to use an external wifi adapter which is bulky and it consumes a USB-port.
Exterior is of low-quality - paint went off from Space button within a few months. Scratches popped up on the surface with no reason. The shiny panels collect grease and dirt very successfully.
The most disturbing drawback is the AC/DC port which gets disconnected so you can't charge the machine. I had to give the laptop back for a month to have it fixed. It's still not fixed - I have to manually fix the socket by opening the laptop.

The support is just a worst nightmare. The troubleshooting agents reply quite quickly, but it doesn't help. I purchased the thing in the UK, but French support of Samsung doesn't speak a word of English!!! UK supporters refuse to get involved and insist that if I won't to have the laptop fixed I have to call Frenchmen.
Frenchmen charged me 150 Euros to fix the AC/DC issue above despite me having a valid warranty. As mentioned above - the issue isn't fixed!

It was my worst PC-related purchase ever. I pay this price for stepping away from Lenovo which served me so well for 5 years!

To put it all in one word you may follow the title - AVOID!
Ivan

3.0 out of 5 stars Poor Wireless Reception, 1 Dec 2011

I bought this laptop a little over 2 weeks ago and initially was impressed. It's very light, well made and great to look at. There is very little flex in it for such a thin machine and the separate-key keyboard is slightly spongy but a delight to use. A previous reviewer said the screen is too small but as a regular 13.3in user I think it's fine (I plug it into a larger screen when I'm at my desk). In fact the screen quality is very good. Much better than my old Toshiba laptop.

This laptop is also really quiet. There's no whirring from large fans and the solid state hard drive makes no noise at all. I almost miss the click, click, churn, churn of a regular hard drive as it goes about its work. Some people have complained on other forums about the touch pad. It's like a Macbook's with no buttons. Clicking is done by tapping with one finger or pressing the bottom left of the pad. Right clicking is done by tapping with two fingers or pressing the bottom right. I find it really easy and nicer to use than a regular PC touchpad with buttons. The ports are a bit weird, there are 2 USBs (one is a USB 3.0) but the VGA, HDMI and network ports are all proprietary mini versions and the SD card slot is a micro SD. Samsung provides an adapter for the network port in the box but not the VGA connector.

So far so good then. All I had to do was buy the VGA adapter. I'm glad I didn't though because as soon as I started to get out and about with this machine I realised just how poor its wireless reception is. I mean it's really bad. My iPad gets much better WiFi reception and that's poor compared to a normal laptop. I have to be in the room with line of sight to the wireless router. In a big room such as our office at work I can have line of sight and still be too far away to get reception. I'm taking it back (I bought it at Dixons Edinburgh Airport) next week. It could be faulty - it must be faulty - it's so bad it's unusable.

I'll update you when I can but for now it's a 5 star super light, super portable laptop with some quirks (good ones and odd ones) let down seriously by poor WiFi reception.
