This review is from: Lenovo Z570 15.6 inch Laptop - Gunmetal (Intel Core i5 2450M 2.5GHz, 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD, DVDRW, LAN, WLAN, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit) (Personal Computers)
I am very pleased with the sound quality of this laptop after having experienced very poor sound from two others. It is excellent for SKYPE both regarding sound and vision. I actually prefer to use it instead of my normal phone. When using SKYPE, I normally link the laptop to my TV so that my wife and I can see our grandchildren more easily than on a small screen

It also works very well with I-player and my HD quality Panasonic TV, via a HMI cable. Reassuringly, when I link them up there is a statement on-screen that the signal is 1080p.

Highly recommended.

I'm not a techie by any means, and Lenovo was not even a name I'd heard of before embarking on identifying a suitable machine. I have to say though, I've been really pleased with this machines performance since I received and started using it just over a month ago. It was delivered in the time expected and was securely packaged. It didn't take me long to set it up using the instructions supplied, and the speed of the machine is impressive. I was looking for a specific spec., and Lenovo seemed to have the best range of devices and at a reasonable price compared to other well known brands. As I've said, not a name I was familiar with, but I'm glad I took the punt...

This notebook will not win design awards but I am impressed by the elegant finish and quality. For a general use notebook it is hard to fault.

At around a minute to boot up, it runs Windows 7 with ease. The screen is a bright clear widescreen format with a wide glossy plastic frame. The speakers are more powerful, with a greater audio range than I have found on previous laptops.

The touchpad has a patterned surface to distinguish the feel from the metal surround. There is a dotted line to indicate the vertical scrolling line. The default driver has multiple options for adding the more sophisticated scrolling options. The off-centre touchpad location renders it vulnerable to left thumb-palm touches that cannot be fully prevented by software settings. A single full length key below the pad rocks for left/right button operation. The elegant ergonomic chiclet keyboard stops crumbs getting under the keys.

It worked out of the box with no major bloatware to remove. I have not used the Lenova software though much of it is children's gaming or customised multimedia/file handling software for non-techies. The Veriface (face recognition) software was already password locked so I have not been able to trial it though web forums suggest its not a serious security tool.

WEI Ratings
Processor: 7.0
RAM:7.4
Graphics: 6.3
Gaming graphics: 6.3
HDD: 5.9

The scores seem very good for a medium price home computer. The integrated Intel graphics card needed a manually prompted driver update to pull it up from 5.9. Note that a dedicated graphics card appears in the original spec in some magazine reviews.

Main buying point was the price (£550) Core i5 chip plus 8Mb RAM plus large HDD. As with most cost conscious PC hardware sold today there were no back up disks or detailed operating manuals.
