I run an IT business but I am not a geek and neither am I a "must have every latest gadget" person - life's too short for technology fixations. For a while now, every time I sat at home and fired up my trusty (old) laptop to pick up work and personal emails, check out a recipe for leftovers in the fridge, check the TV schedules, catch up on iPlayer, etc. I was more and more drawn to the tablet as a "consuming" device.Did a bit of research, not an Apple fanboy in any way (their "walled" garden irks me), have an Android phone, 7 inch is too small for a tab - and have you seen the prices of grown-up 10 inchers? So took the middle option of the Galaxy 8.9 tab at what was a short term price (<£300 for a 16GB white).
Brilliant buy, fits nicely to hand whilst sofa browsing or reading a Kindle book, not too intrusive on the kitchen table top when converting that recipe, and its screen size is the same format as the telly so no stretching or waste on films/TV. I have a Samsung 40" LED TV too so can pass content wirelessly and seamlessly from tab to TV, great for holiday pictures, video clips, etc. on a large screen.
Good clear screen, responsive to touch, loads of battery life when left on all day. Not into collecting loads of apps so running Honeycomb is not a problem, nor is just 16GB - but note, you can add external storage at a cost but it is data storage, not for more apps from what I can see.
One minor quibble, recharging is to my mind a bit slow, 4.5 hours from 15% to 100% whilst it was switched on but not being used.
But it still means that the laptop stays shut-up now when at home and "content" is there at the merest touch.

Bought this for £279 from the Currys website which is an absolute bargain. This is a lovely light tablet with a gorgeous colourful screen (although it could be just a tad brighter). It is slick to run although the orientation sensor can be a bit finickity. If you want to stream video make sure you don't update to Flash 11, as the tablet doesn't seem to like it. The size is a lovely compromise between the 7 inch and 10 inch tablets, being dinky enough to hold with one hand and watch films on without feeling a lack of screen real estate. The tablet plays most movie files, and 720 files look great but like all Tegra 2 slates, it doesn't like MKV coded flicks. Sound quality is decent (as are the bundled headphones) and the Samsung Touchwiz interface is highly customisable. 12 of 12 people found the following review helpful

This is a great tablet at an even better price (paid £279 from Amazon). Had been trying to decide for some time which tablet to get when tried this one out at a Samsung store. It's very light, comfortable to hold and use, easy to set up and use and has a great screen. The gorilla glass screen is tough as old boots and does not need a screen protector. Does show up finger prints but just gently wipe clean with a glasses cloth or microfibre one. Using a capacitive stylus avoids finger prints and works very well with the unit. If you think or find that the 7inch tablets are to small and 10.1 to big this is just what your looking for. What Other Items Do Customers Buy After Viewing This Item?
