This review is from: Acer Aspire 5250 15.6 inch Laptop (AMD Dual Core E450 1.65GHz, RAM 6GB, HDD 500GB, DVD-Super Multi DL, LAN, WLAN, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) (Personal Computers)
Despite the "get what you pay for" title I have only given this product 1 star because I think you can get better for this price. I owned an old Acer for 6 years that served me faithfully but it was time to get a better one as Intel Pentiums are a bit old hat and 512 MB RAM is just impossible these days,LOL! I *thought* I did my research properly to find a laptop with the best value for money and I still believe in the Acer brand. However it was the AMD processor and graphics card that I had trouble with. I couldnt find much information out on the processor. I spent HOURS over it so I'm determined that my efforts are not to go to waste at least with this review! I'm not too up on the AMD brand, I think they're not that bad but it was hard to find out details on what is a good processor from that brand. It seems that the E450, despite being dual core, is actually a bit old hat these days also. Some reviews compared it to being as rubbish as the AMD C50 core, but others said it was light years ahead of the Intel Atom.... this was before I realised how old the Intel Atom was. I bought it thinking it would be OK and that it was cheap just due to AMD not being a well known brand and with other processors you are just paying for the brand name Intel. BIG MISTAKE! By all comparisons it seems slower than what is reported for Intel Core i3, although I do not have experience with that processor to make a full comparison. I have not seen any laptops with the Atom processor so for those looking I would put this AMD processor somewhere between the most "modern" Intel "pentium" but no where near as good as their Core series. I guess if you dont care about graphics and dont have a lot of money it may be the computer for you but I would rather have good graphics and have done my searches for a replacement based on that criteria rather than find another one for the same price so I dont know if you can buy another laptop with better graphics for that price. I also never went into finding a price comparison with a better AMD processor to know if a more up to date one is better value than the equivalent Intel Core model. If AMD are to get better reviews on their processors I think they need to invest in some better information and marketing that isnt just aimed at pure tech geeks who actually understand it. Because of this bad experience I am sticking to the Intel brand from now on.

Positives: cheap

Negatives: AMD dual-core processor E450 is slow and "old model" compared with even Intel core i3 equivalent
AMD Radeon HD 6320 is not a good graphics card (NB they dont include this in the spec, only listed on the computer)images are very pixelated, even compared to my 6 year old computer
Flash could not cope with the slowness of the processor
Multi tasking, even with 6 GB RAM was only marginally faster than my old Intel Pentium with 512 MB RAM
For actual hardware see reviews for the Acer Aspire 5733 15.6 inch Laptop, all relatively good because of the Intel Core i3 processor and value for money but if you check out the negative reviews it is the same keyboard

Bad review is for the processor and graphics only, I still like the Acer brand and Amazon customer service have been good (so far) about the replacement of another laptop. I am waiting to exchange it so cannot comment further on that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great laptop, awesome value!, 15 Aug 2012

For a full 15.6" laptop below £300 the spec is just fantastic!

The 6GB of RAM is more than ideal for browsing, playing mp3/cds, completing Office tasks and using Photoshop and a great addition at this price! The E450 processor is far superior to other AMD processors and outperforms Intel's Pentium Dual Core processors in benchmark testing, but more importantly it has so far coped with all the things I've asked it to do such as watching Flash/YouTube, surfing and letting the kids play online games. If you want to play some serious gaming then a better graphics card can be added as the Radeon won't cope with anything too heavy.

The pictures here don't really do it any favours as it's design is modern-looking if not spectacular, whilst the numberpad is a useful addition and something you wouldn't get on anything smaller. It feels robust and does what i want it to do, and at £299 this is the most pleasing aspect for me. We use this as an entertainment device with a bit of data processing and for this i have not seen anything better for the price. Certainly when i compare this to my old HP laptops it is far superior. If i have to find fault the keys make a slightly heavy clicking sound and the initial power saving setting needed some adjustment but apart from that, couldn't be happier! Speakers are ok and cope with video audio, but stick to using external speakers or headphones when playing music.

open the box and you get a recovery cd start guide, battery and power cord. It was really straight forward to setup and within 10 mins i was away.

This review is from: Acer Aspire 5250 15.6 inch Laptop (AMD Dual Core E450 1.65GHz, RAM 6GB, HDD 500GB, DVD-Super Multi DL, LAN, WLAN, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) (Personal Computers)
I was looking for the best laptop I could afford, but didn't have a huge budget. I compared several brands on different websites, and this one fit nicely into the 'spec for my money' bracket. I only use it for personal use, ie YouTube, Facebook, watching DVD's, checking e mails etc. I don't use it for gaming.
Particularly when watching dvd's, the screen resolution is excellent, though like any laptop the speakers are basic, so use of external speakers or headphones is recommended to get the best sound.
It's fast, it's a great price (it has come down in price from when I bought it), it's got a dual core processor, so when I do add Microsoft Office I know it will handle it with ease.
Perfect for home use, a great little machine!
