This is my third Mac. It is as impressive as the old 17" 'table lamp' model I started with and my current iMac 21.5". I bought the Mini to replace the aging PC I use at my second home in France. The minimalist design of the Mac Mini, its 500Gb hard drive and Mac OS x Lion with iCloud make it the perfect partner to communicate with the iMac back in the UK. Quick and easy to set up, it was simplicity itself to migrate all my software and files from the iMac and does everything I need competently with the advantage of the intuitive OS X operating system. I was initially concerned at the lack of optical drive but manage perfectly well without it. The SD card slot enables me to copy and play music on my car audio system and I can copy files to the iCloud to download to my iMac when I return to the UK. Its portability will enable me take it back and forth and use it as a media centre in the UK connected to my TV by HDMI cable. My old Apple keyboard, Logitech optical mouse and Acer monitor were easy to connect and were instantly recognised.

Only one disappointment shared by many is the lack of support for older software versions and peripherals. I am left with an excellent scanner that is no longer supported (Canon must, however, take some responsibility for that) and am no longer able to use MS Office for Mac 2004 though the Apple equivalent package, iWork is an excellent replacement at a fraction of the cost.

Everything considered, the Mac Mini is a lot of computing power for the money with a very small form factor.

After being a PC for over 10 years I decided to which over, as Windows 7 was a pain and also I needed Logic 9 for College work. As I didn't have enough money for a MacBook Pro/iMac I decided to go with the much cheaper Mac Mini, and to be entirely honest, its runs perfectly, near no difference between the iMac. With the Mac Mini being quite small you can simple plot it anyway, on the desk, under the monitor, maybe hidden. The 2GB of RAM included with the Mini is good, but very sluggish, with only iTunes and Google Chrome the Mini cannot handle anymore usage. With this problem I decided to buy 8GB Corsair RAM, and i'm glad I did. It performs perfectly now, running iTunes, Google Chrome, App Store, Skype, Steam and Logic 9 smoothly, with no delays or freezes.
Don't hesitate, buy it now, you wont regret it.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Apple Mac mini (Lion Server Quad-Core i7,2.0GHz,4GB,Dual 500GB,HD Graphics) (Personal Computers)
What a great bit of kit. First up, let me say that this machine is not used as a server! Instead, I have used it for home storage of music, films, home made movies etc. So the machine was purchased as a home storage (which you get with the server version of the mac mini 2x 500GB 7200rpm hard drives come as standard). With the additional attraction of having a great processor (Intel quad core i7). The non-server versions of the mac mini come with hard drives with 5,200 rpm so a great upgrade for my needs. To boot, the machine has all the usual benefits of Macs, in that they are clatter and virus free and "just works". I have a 6 year old mac mini 1st generation and still works as well as it did when I bought it because 3rd party software is heavily policed by Apple so that it doesn't introduce malware (or any other little bugs that ultimately slow PCs down). The only downside with mac mini server is that if you are a serious gamer, there's no discrete GPU (although you can rig it externally if you are that bothered) AND during set-up, make sure you have a USB keyboard and mouse handy even if you eventually want to use a bluetooth keyboard and either (my preference) a magic trackpad or bluetooth mouse.

But be warned: some unscrupulous 3rd party traders on amazon are using the wrong RRP so you think you are getting a saving but check on apple.com/uk for the latest upto date RRP. And remember, if you qualify for educational discount, you can get 3 years waranty FREE by buying directly from Apple. Don't be conned
