Like many others I bought this product after reading and watching numerous reviews and I can safely agree that most of the review sites either didn't spend too much time with the Note 10.1 or are blatantly biased towards Apple ( Cnet.com is a prime example ).

1. Screen - gets slated by most reviews. It's actually excellent. Side by side with a retina display its a little inferior but still exceptionally good.

2. Multitasking - really quick and improves productivity, gives you an experience more akin to a laptop than a tablet.

3. OS - My first experience with Android, I was a little apprehensive about learning a new OS but it's actually very intuitive, I was flying round the tablet in 3 or 4 mins no problem. I would say easier to use than Ipad. I'll be honest I have never unerstood the arguements about how easy all the Apple products are to use, they're good but they certainly aren't flawless and iOS isn't the world beater that everyone claims it is, in my opinion anyway.

4.Build Quality - 100% plastic but still built very well. Creaks and flexes? Only if you start abusing it and as soon as you put it in a case it all becomes irrelevant. I have the grey version and it looks really classy, the materials are top notch. It's actually quite a bit lighter than my ipad and more comfortable to hold for long periods.

5. Audio - Front facing speakers are a godsend. The volume is very good, the quality is excellent for such tiny speakers and the sound is projected towards you. Blows my ipad speakers out of the water.

6. S-pen- Extremely useful - I've used it a bit and can see why people who need the note taking capability rave about this. Handwriting recognition is good, shape recognition is also impressive but it you like to keep your screen grease free it's just really useful for swiping around the screen during every day use without having to touch the screen with your fingers. It gives you greater precision on clicking on things without having to zoom in and out all the time.

7. Connectivity - Unfortunately no HDMI or USB support but both of these issues are resolved with a £3 accessory, granted it's not as convenient as having a readily available port but still not insurmountable. The micro sd card is in my opinion an absolute necessity on a tablet due to the limited storage they all have. Without this I wouldn't even bother buying a tablet. I have 3 cards which I just regularly load up with new media for when I'm travelling and can watch movies etc on planes. Yet another big ommission from the Apple people.

8. Hardware - 1.4ghz quad core with 2gb ram. Find that anywhere else for this price in the tablet market and I'll be astonished. This is almost laptop quality specs in a 10.1 format. Is again significantly superior to Ipad. Provides a slick and enjoyable experience.

9. Battery life - Not as good as the ipad but you should still see around 8 hours of mixed use with wifi on all the time.

Overall - I was originally reluctant to jump into the tablet market, I had a nice laptop and a very quick desktop and didn't see the need but lately I've been travelling a lot and wanted something more portable. I now rarely use anything else other than when I need to type a long e mail etc. I've had an ipad since June which I won in a competition and ended up giving it my girlfriend, I found it a bit heavy, I didn't like the screen size ratio and I loathe the locked in Apple ecosystem. The note 10.1 is pretty amazing, it boots up faster than the ipad, the user experience is very slick, no hanging or stutter, very untuitive. You have expandable storage with the micro sd slot, the speakers are excellent as is the screen and the s-pen is very useful. Despite the lack of usb I can't find fault with it, other than still waiting for the jelly bean update, I'm interested to know how some reviewers have been able to update already because I can't.

I have watched reviews, read reviews and played with both the ipad and the galaxy note 10.1. My conclusion is that Apple run some very nice software and ultimately have the edge on apps also the screen resolution is higher on the ipad but for me, that is where any claim to ipad superiority finishes.
The galaxy note looks and feels robust and built to last, the Spen opens up a whole new world for tablet use, as dose the split screen functionality. Then there is the ability to expand the memory to 64 Gb (although some report only being able to upgrade to 32 Gb) and I'm sure you can also expand the memory via the usb adapter so theoretically the memory is limitless.
The speakers are superb, for a small device so playing music or watching movies on the go is catered for. I also have a seagate goflex satellite with all my movies and music so the two combined make a superb 100% potable entertainment system.
However, the Spen really is what sets this device apart from the competition. It's easy to use and takenotes in meetings, you can make notes on documents and within books, make copies then send them by email or fax (if you have the right app). You can write on photos and share them, create documents with installed software (polaris office). With this software you can edit expand and even create windows compatible documents. The list of options goes on and on. The Spen is more than just a stylus it really does work as a pen or pencil or brush. There is palm recognition software built into the note so that you only get what you write or draw and not a big splodge where the palm of your hand has been. I think that is amazing.
I think the galaxy note 10.1 is a superb device and without the Spen, I think would make a strong contender for the tablet crown, however, with the Spen the note rips that crown from the ipads head then dances a mery jig all over Apples defeated corpse. Well that's what I think

A good purchase. Easy to carry about and do the things you do on a laptop or pc. Just a bit more compact and the pen is pretty useful

I bought this a few weeks ago. I must say that this device is brilliant. For what it offers in terms of specs/features, it's value for money. The screen is far better than what the so-called professional reviewers say. If you are thinking about getting this tablet, read actual user reviews on sites like amazon. No need to compromise on features just for a retina display on an iPad. This device overall is way ahead of the iPad in terms of functionality.

I have to rate it five stars as compared to what else is out there, the note 10.1 is brilliant. Yes there are a few minor gripes but this will be the case with any device. It's just what you think is important and what you are willing to compromise.

The S-pen is great. I do find papyrus note taking app a bit easier to use than S-note. The S-note app is feature rich and does take some getting used to. I find that when I import pdf's and annotate in S-note, the annotated document loses some quality. Also I hope Samsung introduces cloud storage for the saved S-notes as it would be hard to lose your notes in the event the device crashes.

All in all, a great device for which the jelly bean update with premium suite will make even better.

Got this for the missus (from Tesco direct it was cheaper with a new customer discount voucher code) as a Christmas present she feels technology is leaving her behind
So far she hasn't put it down setting up the usual apps (facebook, skype etc) and contacted her sister in Portugal and brother who lives in Scotland
She is now moving onto more complicated apps and tasks and has taken to it like a duck to water

Personally feel this product was better than the ipad route as not limited to itunes and can expand the memory when required

Would recommend this product both price wise and quality of build

Only problem so far is attaching a usb stick to it but there is a gadget that enables this. Otherwise great product.

Bought two of these for my teenage sons for Christmas. As we have a family i pad I was unsure if they would live up to the kids expectations, however they are highly pleased with their tablets.

I am loving using this. It arrived very quickly and was well packaged. I don't have a smart phone so it's taken a while to get used to.

I am quite the tech geek and I am literally stunned by how much samsung gives you for your money. This is an excellent product, able to handle multitasking easily I am constantly flipping between file folders, web browsing, music and documents. This device handles many applications at once without so much as a stutter in frame rate.

Sound quality and volume from this device is surprising, I dont think I have ever had the volume set over 60% because it is loud! The screen is of lovely quality resolution and I havent scratched it yet, I made sure to get a case when I bought the product.

The Stylus pen due to its square shape can be a little awkward to hold at times but it does an excellent job. I have been using this tablet pc as a graphics tablet, the bunbled pgotoshop touch software is brilliant and I have made some beautiful pictures. A WACOM graphics tablet which offers comparable tech costs in the order of 1000 pounds or more!

I have only scratched the surface of this tablets capabilities and and am thus far very impressed, I cant see why anyone would spend more on an iPad when Samsung offers a much better device and better customer care. The Google 7 Nexus and the Asus Transformer Prime are the only clear competition with this product come the end of 2012.
