5.0 out of 5 stars Do I need a tablet., 29 Dec 2012

Many people will share the same dilemma as me and that's, 'if I have a smartphone, do I need a tablet?'.

Before buying this product, I've asked that very question many times. For most a smartphone is a device which covers our every need, but when they fall short on doing a particular task, this is when we consider buying a device to accompanying it. For me it was always difficult to justify buying an expensive tablet, when my phone did most of what I can do on a tablet.

The first time I considered buying a tablet was when I realised reading books was terrible on my Samsung Galaxy S1. I could not justify the price of a tablet so decided to get a kindle. The second time was when I got a new job that required occasional long travel and I wanted something I could watch Sky on, but due to the lack of a Sky Go android app, I got an mini laptop instead.

I finally decided a tablet was for me after buying my girlfriend one for Christmas. This was after I received a Samsung 7 inch tab 2 for free from a camera promotion. I knew when ordering it, the screen would feel too small, especially as it wouldn't be much of an increase in screen size over my Samsung Galaxy S3. I sold this and bought my girlfriend this tablet and then myself one a few days ago. A tablet fits in nicely between your smartphone and laptop, as you can enjoy reading books, magazines and generally get a better experience on surfing the web, on a nicer more intuitive device. I've actually sold my laptop now, as I have a desktop computer and although the tablet still lacks the Sky Go app, I'm sure this will be released soon.

Finally I can say now that if you're having the same initial dilemma, then just go for it as you won't be disappointed. If you have a kindle, keep it as reading books on a tablet outside is difficult.

I bought this for my fiance for Christmas and he absolutely loves it!! I am officially a Samsung tablet widow!

It is a lovely looking piece of kit which is smooth and quick.

It was also a great offer with the £50 cashback which was an added bonus.

I would highly recommend this product...I am very tempted to get myself one!

I'm over 70 and not a youngster who's always chatting to friends but, for me, this 7" tablet is extremely good. First, it's very portable in a way that the 10" version isn't. It doubles as a mobile phone and a laptop with aps that are very usable 'on the move' where a laptop isn't and a normal mobile phone screen is too small for comfort.
It isn't perfect - videos being one problem. The Adobe video add on isn't compatible so some videos won't run which is a shame.
Otherwise the screen is nice and clear and easy to use and its possible to take .xls or .doc files with you if you need
to. These can be used, modified and saved as necessary. One other gripe is the lack of a universal printer driver... but then carrying a printer with you might defeat the object of usability and portability. Two areas where the Galaxy Tab 2 excells.
Phone, email, texting and voip all in your pocket... you can't ask for much more, surely?

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased - better than an ipad, 29 Dec 2012

This is a great tablet!!
I have done my research and very nearly bought a nexus 7, but i am so glad i opted for the samsung tab 2 10.1, as it is so much better for watching films and tv on due to its bigger screen.
The only app i cannot get that a ipad can i have found is sky go, but im sure this will be fixed soon as it is now available on most android tablets. plus i do miss an actual button to press to return to the home screen.
It is quick and responsive and is easy to personalise unlike an apple product, where you are stuck withe the same looking home screen, no matter which apps are displayed.
Overall this is a great tablet, and i will use it for most of my day to day computer needs. A**********

Judging by my husband's face on Christmas morning and the fact we couldn't prise it away from him for the rest of the day, I would say this one's a hit!

Best price ever ! Easy to use, lots already on it and sooooooo easy to get connected, the app store is brilliant I don't think I would ever have enough time to use all the capabilities of this beautiful, sleek tablet. The images on the screen are crystal clear, and as for using it to read books, changing the font size, colour of the background page is as easy as pie, overall this has to be the tablet ever, everyone should have one !!!!!!!!!!

My first tablet and apart from the fact that it is difficult to load Adobe Flash player and Skygo it is a great piece of equipment.

Have to change security settings to get Adobe Flash and I am not that keen on doing that but will have to.Still working on finding a fully functioning Skygo app.If anyone has any ideas I am willing to listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars It blew me away., 28 Dec 2012

This is a great device. Forget the negative reviews you might see complaining that it hasn't got this or it's not that. Ok, so the display might not be quite up to Retina standards in the Ipad, but honestly, it's just great.

Pros: Great screen for the price, good build, fast enough, operating system easy to upgrade; memory is expandable; battery lasts all day, Samsungs £50 cash back if bought before end of December 2012; Including this discount the device cost me £190, a steal! A great buy, especially for a first time tablet buyer like me.

Cons: Not alot really, except that you can't print to a non samsung printer unless you pay for an app;
Speakers are a bit tinny but there is a headphone jack to improve the sound.

Other comments: I would highly recommend that you register your tablet with a tracking website such as SamsungDive for example. From there you can track the tablet if it is lost or stolen, and also lock it and wipe it's memory. So there's no guarantee you'll get it back, but at least your personal information won't be available to steal.

As a first time tablet buyer I am quite impressed by it's screen and it's functions in such a compact device. The colours are vibrant, it displays photos really well (better than my PC monitor) and it's quick. Pages scroll quickly and smoothly and applications start up without undue delay. The google maps app is slick, in that it pans, zooms and rotates the map reasonably smoothly (with a good internet connection). I have read occasional reviews which said that it stuttered slightly when playing a game. This might be because they didn't check the power saving settings where you can speed up the processor but it uses up more battery (which incidentally has lasted me all day on a full charge, 10 + hours surfing the web, watching occasional videos and playing with apps).

I connected it to my PC and easily updated the operating system to Android 4.1 Jellybean using the Kies software from the Samsung website, it takes about half an hour. I have had many hours of fun over Christmas getting to know the Android way of doing things, and finding out what it's capable of, for example the voice recognition can make searches quick and easy.

Although plastic, the build quality is very good. The speakers are a bit tinny but what do you expect in something of this size and price? There is a headphone jack if you want to improve it. A big plus is that the memory is expandable using an SD card, so why spend a fortune getting a tablet with 32GB built in memory when a 16GB SD card only cost about £10?. (By the way, I don't think you can put apps onto the SD card, only photos and documents, but the 16GB of internal memory seems ample room for my apps. I've downloaded 10 in addition to the preloaded apps and also 3 e books and have still got 10GB left.

The only criticism I have is that it won't print to a non- Samsung printer unless you buy an app for about £8, but it's not such a big deal for me because I can email documents to myself and download/print off my PC, but might be for someone else. so come on Samsung, don't be so tight and give us a free app!
The only other observation is that this is my second tablet - the first one (purchased from another retailer) had a fault in that the trim did not quite meet the screen at the top in the middle, thus leaving a small dust gathering gap, and it went straight back; it shouldn't really have left the factory, but I will forgive Samsung for that because there has apparently been a massive rush on tablets, and there is Samsungs £50 cash back offer too, increasing demand.
